This blog post is meant to catalog all the fascist/reactionary groups that exist and operate in Tallahassee. Groups qualify for this list if they are overtly fascist or have been associated with fascism in the past.
Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK)
This group is, for the most part, fairly quiet. However, the KKK is the most overtly fascist group on this list and must be taken seriously. Despite this group's seeming inactivity, there have been recent occurrences than can be attributed to their name. Most recently in late November, the letters "KKK" were spraypainted on the front office door of Killearn Lakes, a housing association. Last spring, there were KKK fliers distributed throughout Tallahassee neighborhoods. Tallahassee Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) soon organized an anti-KKK protest in response to this action. This protest prompted the KKK to organize publicly themselves for a counter-demonstration a few days later.
Turning Point USA
Yes, these guys. TPUSA is probably most known for their signs with the slogan "Big Government Sucks". While TPUSA may seem like a fairly harmless conservative organization, they are worth keeping an eye on. TPUSA is credited for creating the "Professor Watchlist", a website that catalogs liberal/progressive/leftist professors at colleges around the country. TPUSA was founded by Charlie Kirk, a young political personality who can be associated with the "alt-right".
FSU College Republicans
This group can be considered a mostly unthreatening conservative org. However, FSU College Republicans hosted a visit to FSU's campus by Milo Yiannopoulos, a controversial conservative speaker. Milo is associated with Breitbart News, a news website popular with the "alt-right". If FSU College Republicans is expected to continue their support for figures like Milo, we can safely consider them fascist-enabling.
Alt-Right
While the "alt-right" may not yet be formally organized in Tallahassee, their presence still exists. The term "alt-right" was coined by Richard Spencer, a known white-nationalist. Members of the "alt-right" have often been associated with rampant racism, sexism, and nationalism. While their calling-cards and symbology may be absurd and almost comedic, they should still be taken seriously. Imagery like "Pepe the Frog", Trump hats, and the ironic use of word "deplorables" to describe themselves can be used to identify members of the "alt-right".
Thankfully, the presence of fascist/reactionary groups in Tallahassee is small. Despite this, it is still important to take action against any presence of these groups. It is also important to keep an eye out for the formation of new groups, which may very well happen in the wake of Donald Trump's victory in the race for president.
If you wish to know more about the presence of hate-groups in America, Southern Poverty Law Center has many great resources on this subject.
Note: SPLC notes there being a neo-nazi group organized within Tallahassee known as the Gallows Tree Wotansvolk. Evidence points to a possibility that this group is either now defunct or inactive. However, keep an eye out.
